1-on-1 Aide Specialist
Support every scholar’s growth.
The 1-on-1 Aide Specialist provides individualized support to scholars in Freedom Scholars Learning Center’s 2026–2027 Seed Sowers & Storytellers Afterschool Program.
This role works closely with Servant Leaders, program staff, and families to help assigned scholars participate fully in daily learning, enrichment, routines, and community-building activities.

Work hours scheduled between 2:00–7:00 PM

What the 1-on-1 Aide Specialist Does
- Provide direct, individualized support to assigned scholars throughout the program day
- Support participation in Harambee, Integrated Reading Curriculum, reading interventions, projects, gardening, DEAR/BOOST, meals, transitions, field trips, and special events
- Help scholars follow routines, understand directions, transition between activities, and participate successfully in group settings
- Support communication, emotional regulation, relationship-building, and growing independence
- Work collaboratively with Servant Leaders and program staff to adapt activities and provide appropriate support
- Communicate relevant scholar needs, progress, and concerns with program staff and families
- Support safe arrival, dismissal, and participation throughout the program
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality, professional boundaries, and child-safety practices
- Participate in required training, daily debriefs, and professional development
Who We’re Looking For
Applicants should have:
- Experience working with children or youth
- Experience supporting children with disabilities, neurodivergence, IEPs, behavioral needs, social-emotional needs, or other individualized support needs is preferred
- Ability to remain calm, patient, flexible, and supportive in challenging situations
- Ability to work collaboratively with scholars, families, Servant Leaders, and program staff
- Commitment to culturally responsive, child-centered, and inclusive practices
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to complete required background checks and child-safety clearances
- An up to date résumé
- Experience or training in special education, paraprofessional support, CPR/First Aid, or crisis intervention is helpful but not required
