What to expect

Seed Sowers meets Monday through Thursday afternoons at St. Mark's & St. John's Church. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade learn together through reading, gardening, storytelling, and action research.

Location

We gather at St. Mark's & St. John's Church

Our home is at 1245 Culver Road. Freedom Scholars leaders meet scholars at School #33 at dismissal and walk together to the church.

Eligibility

Your child must be in kindergarten through sixth grade

Scholars accepted into the program must be available to participate for the full duration. Commitment to the program ensures the best experience for your child.

Transport

We provide transportation from School #33

Our leaders meet your child at dismissal and walk or ride the bus together to the church. If you can arrange your own transportation to the church, students from other schools are welcome to join.

Enrollment

Acceptance is first-come, first-serve

We strongly encourage families to attend parent orientation on September 19th at 6:00pm to guarantee your child's spot in the program.

Junior Servant Leader Intern

Junior Servant Leaders are young adults (between the ages of 16-20) who are responsible for assisting with the care and nurturing of the scholars at Freedom Scholars Learning Center summer program site. They are responsible for supporting the facilitation of the Integrated Reading Curriculum in a classroom setting, while also supporting outside facilitators and building relationships with students, families and the community. Junior Servant Leaders should be committed to the goals of FSLC, able to work collaboratively with all program constituents and be familiar with the culture and dynamics of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate classroom activities and Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC) lessons with Servant Leader Interns.
  • Assist in preparing, maintaining, and breaking down classroom space, including securing, cleaning, and organizing materials.
  • Collaborate with program staff to create and sustain a structured, supportive environment for all children.
  • Serve as a Harambee Leader each day of program operations.
  • Lead and organize team-building activities for scholars.
  • Assist with patrolling community walks.
  • Manage small group instruction (1:1 or 3:1) as needed.
  • Support overall classroom management.
  • Attend daily debrief sessions.
  • Participate in all training and professional development sessions.
